ARTDOCFEST RIGA
A revolution changes the social and political landscape; but first it transforms the actual one. No other European capital city centre had recently looked the way Kiev’s Maidan did a short while ago, resembling a medieval carnival or a futuristic fantasy. “This is a total installation,” one artist says in the film. Just like in a carnival, in a revolution everyday object change their meaning and suddenly become museum artefacts, like artist-painted police shields and pompous attributes of the fallen regime. “Museum ‘Revolution’” is an extraordinary view on the Ukrainian events through the prism of artists, museum workers, and curators, who try to retain the present for the future while the present is still happening before their very eyes.
