#BRODSKY_RIGA: Дети Иосифа

Brodska mantinieki_3
The screening of the documentary by Ekaterina Gordeeva at Splendid Palace downstairs cafe is an event of great significance due to it’s timing – it seems the city is on a Brodsky craze – this same date marks the premiere of a long-awaited collaboration between the Latvian theatre grand Alvis Hermanis and Mikhail Baryshnikov at The New Riga Theatre entitled “Brodsky/Baryshnikov”. But if Iosif Brodsky could return to today’s Russia, he would meet the people who are protagonists of this film. This is a portrait of a generation. The protagonists of the film talk about Brodsky, but they are not literary critics – just people, who have been greatly influenced by Brodsky’s life and works. Although they have never met him in person, in a certain way they are still his children – Iosif’s children.
The screening at Cafe Film Noir on the first day of the Riga International Film Festival is a free entrance policy event, naturally – one has to assess the limits of the cafe’s capacity. So, come early and join the opening of the festival’s exhibition upstairs – “In Search of Cinemas Lost” by architect and photographer Zigmārs Jauja, and make it an evening saturated by history, art, literature and first and foremost – cinema!
